5 of my favourite films you’ve (probably) never heard of.

I watch a shit load of films and usually my way of knowing I loved something is by how much it’s on my mind after seeing it and how many times I re-watch it. (This excludes 12 Years a Slave. Fucking masterpiece but I aint going through that shit again, not for at least another decade or two). The only thing I love doing more than watching films and TV is talking about films and TV with different people, but I find whenever I mention certain gemz I get blank faces and asked whether it’s a Marvel or DC flick (I’m gonna write something soon about these frickin’ comic book films because this shit is seriously getting out of hand).

So here are 5 of my favourite films you’ve (probably) never heard of.

1. Kill List

A cool genre bending flick stars the Don (I hope to direct this dude someday) Neil Maskell is about an ex-military dude carrying out some hits for an organisation that somehow leads them down a trail of… yo I don’t even wanna say. Just watch this film if you like crime, horror and gritty, realistic British films.

2. The Paperboy

Directed by Lee Daniels (Precious, The Butler) this cool little mystery dropped just before The Butler did but it got completely overlooked. It’s crammed with talent such as Mathew -alright, alright, aright – McConaughey, Nicole Kidman, David Oyelewo, Zac Efron, John Cusack and Macy Gray. This film is dark, sexy and pulpy with cool characters, a cool story, cool visuals and cool ending. A great piece.

3. London

Two dudes hold up in the toilet of a houseparty and do coke while talking about love, God and metaphysics. What’s not to like? Starring Captain America, Jason -Come on, I’ll take you all on- Statham and Jessica Beil.

If you’ve ever been a winy little bitch because ANOTHER girlfriend just broke up with you after she realises that you aint shit, aint got shit, aint ever gonna be shit and you need a movie to distract you from the bawling into your pillow while listening to songs you used to make (early-twenties/not-so-passionate/haven’t-done-this-very-long/learnt’-everything-from-porn/always-over-to-quickly) love to, then this is the movie for you. *sniff, sniff. I’m okay. It was a hard time.

4. The Dog Problem

I hate all films with dogs (except K-9. That film is Dope) as much as I hate all people with dogs. But a friend forced this film into my hand years ago and I haven’t stopped watching it ever since. Its a little comedy/drama of a depressed novelist who gets a dog. That’s it really. But it’s fucking amazing. It’s a beautiful little story about two lonely people connecting over their love for a dog and their fear of love. It’s got cool actors (Giovanni Ribisi, Don Cheadle, Scott Caan and Lynn Collins), cool characters, funny one-liners and intelligent strippers and okay I’ll admit it, a cute dog.

BTW, I don’t really hate dog owners.

5. The Veteran

A revenge film set in the endz. Toby Kebbell plays an ex-squadie back from Afghanistan who gets into it with the local man dem. So he shoots up the place fam!!!!! It’s obviously a much deeper film then I’m making it out to be. It draws parallels between war over seas and war in our city streets and is a great social commentary on war and conflict in general. A really cool flick that combines the popular London Hood drama with the Revenge/Action genre.

So there you go. Let me know if you do watch any of these flicks and what you think of them.

Oh and Avengers: Age of Ultron was shit………………………. I actually didn’t watch it. I’m just a hater.
